Annual visitors guide released

School is out, the weather is great and summer has begun! The San Juan Record is delighted to release the fourth annual 101 Ways to Experience San Juan County.
The 64-page magazine is included in this week’s issue of the San Juan Record and will be available at local businesses and visitor centers.
“This publication will provide more than 100 great ideas to see and do while experiencing the spectacular place we call home,” said Bayley Hedglin, executive director of the San Juan Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce is a partner in the publication.
Prizes are available to those who explore the 101 list. The Grand Prize is the winner’s choice of a trip for two either jeeping or river rafting with Four Corners Adventure.
Three first prizes will be awarded for dinner for four at a local restaurant. Second prize are specialized travel bags from the San Juan Record.
“We changed the contest this year to reward more people,” said San Juan Record Editor Bill Boyle. “Instead of a prize for the single highest point earner, all those who visit 30 sites or earn 75 points can enter the grand prize drawing.”
The contest runs from May 25 to September 30, with an October 5 submission deadline.
Document each activity. Acceptable forms of documentation include, but are not limited to, dated receipts, photographs or ticket stubs. You can enter the contest by submitting photos or video on Instagram. Use the number and title of the activity as the caption of the photo and hashtag it #SJR101.  Your Instagram account must be PUBLIC, or we cannot view your photos.
Those who check off all 101 things on the lifetime list are eligible for an award. More info on the contest rules can be found within the guide itself.
The sponsors invite everyone to use the guide to plan a summer of fun and educational activities.
A checklist on page 62 of the guide lists all 101 ideas. Keep track of your progress. The list includes wonderful sites, community celebrations, a few new ideas and lots of San Juan favorites.
The checklist has two columns, one to check off if you visit this summer and the other to check off if you have completed the task in your lifetime.
Whatever you do, don’t make the mistake of being so focused on checking off your list that you fail to enjoy the wonder of it all.
The San Juan Record Facebook page will include updates and weekly reminders of the 101 list. Visit the page and share your experiences completing the 101 tasks.
The Utah Travel Council provided a grant to distribute the guide to visitors from out of the state. In addition, San Juan County provided additional funding to the Chamber of Commerce to print additional copies of the magazine for the visitor centers. In total, there are 20,000 copies of the guide, which are very popular for the visitors who will crowd San Juan County.
The book is full of spectacular photos, many from readers of the San Juan Record. We thank them for their contributions, participation and photography skills. Allison Yamamoto-Sparks provided the main cover photo for the magazine.
Special thanks to the hard-working crew at the San Juan Record, particularly Andrea Montgomery, Jill Pearson, Katie Boyle, and Merri Allyson Platt.
