Willamelia “WILLIE” Frost Barton

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Willamelia “Willie” Frost Barton passed away June 27, 2007 at the home of her daughter, April Longhurst, in Orem, UT.

Born to Clarence A. and Seraphine Smith Frost near Gallup, NM on November 8, 1912 she lived in Monticello during her youth and while raising her family.

She attended grade school in the small schools in San Juan County before moving to Salt Lake City, where she lived first with her grandmother, and then worked as a live-in-maid while attending high school. She returned to Monticello to graduate with the first class to graduate from Monticello High School.

She married Lloyd L. Barton on June 6, 1929 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and filled many callings during her lifetime.

Willie and Lloyd lived in Monticello until 1965, when they were called to serve in the Mesa Arizona Temple.

While living in Arizona, she and her husband were called to the Australia, Melbourne Mission in 1972, after which they returned to work in the Mesa Temple where they served for a total of 15 years.

Willie moved to Utah and lived with her son, Edson, in 1994. Some years later she moved to Idaho to live with her daughter, April Longhurst.

After her children were all in school, she learned to type then went to work as a secretary at the San Juan Record, ACS, and then as bookkeeper at Redd Motor’s, prior to moving to Arizona.

Willie was a champion of those in need and shared her home and her abundance continually with people who had a unique need or no family or place to go. She truly believed and lived the words “Because I have been given much I too must give.”

When asked she always said her family was her greatest accomplishment in life. She loved each child and grandchild and knew the names of all, including the great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alfred and Melvin Frost, husband Lloyd Barton and sons, Lawrence, Silas D., Robert L., Stanley M., and Allen J., son-in-law, Woodrow Longhurst, and nine grandchildren.

She is survived by sister Pearl Lewis and brother Kent Frost of Monticello, daughters Anne (Ralph) Mitchell of Spanish Fork, UT, Helen (Bill) Halls of Elko, NV, Nancy (Cleal) Bradford of Blanding, UT, April Longhurst of Orem, UT, sons Alfred “Al” (Anne) Barton of Bountiful, UT, and Edson “Ed” (Ann) Barton of Orem, UT; 40 Grandchildren, 136 great-grandchildren, and 98 great-great-grandchildren.

With grateful hearts we extend thanks to the Monticello Second Ward Bishop Dale Black and Relief Society, Vista Hospice Staff, SereniCare Funeral Home in Orem and all others who have helped in any way at this time. Services will be at 11 am, Saturday July 7, in Monticello.
