Warren Thomas Closterman

Warren Thomas Closterman passed away on October 8, 2014 of acute myeloma leukemia.
He was born March 29, 1952 in Rahway, NJ to William and Marjorie Closterman and raised in Whippany.
At the age of 17 he was a lifeguard and also joined the Whippany, NJ volunteer fire department, where they received 500 calls a year on average.
Warren was always willing to help anyone. He would stop for complete strangers to help them. At the age of 18, he served in the National Guard. In his 20’s, he had his own truck hauling gas products.
When he was 28, he moved to Salt Lake City to be close to his brother Chuck. They had the same interests; hunting and fishing, not necessarily in that order.
He was driving for American Western in December of 1980 when the secretary for the company, Kathie Riddle, told him, “You’ve got to meet my sister, Patti!”
So out on a date they went and were married April 25, 1981. She and her mother picked out the date, which just happened to be his parents’ anniversary.
Later, they discovered six relatives, three on each side, shared that as their birthday. It was meant to be.
In 1991, they moved to beautiful Monticello, UT. Warren restarted his trucking business driving over the road.
Sometime in the mid to late 1990s, he joined the Monticello volunteer fire department. He loved every minute of it serving with his fireman brothers.
In 2007, he worked for Western Refining hauling crude oil. On December 19, 2012, he fell ill with acute myeloid leukemia. The doctors told him it was caused by the benzene in the petroleum products. So please, if you get any petroleum products on your skin, wash it off immediately. It may save your life.
He fought relentlessly against death and when told there was no hope of recovery, he said no to the machines that would prolong his life. He died with dignity and grace.
Not once did he complain ever the whole time during his illness about any of it.  He was a remarkable man with a heart of a lion and will be very deeply missed.
He is Patti’s heart and soul - the love of her life.
Warren is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patti, two brothers Chuck and Ward, sister Denise, and numerous nephews and nieces.  
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on October 14, 2014 in Monticello, UT. Interment in the Monticello Cemetery.
