Wanda Hunt Black

December 29, 1934 ~ October 22, 2018
Wanda Hunt Black was born in Moab, UT to Ozro and Myrtle Hunt on December 29, 1934. She spent the next nearly 84 years enriching lives, teaching, creating a loving home where everyone was welcomed, and blessing thousands of lives through her teaching, service, generosity, and open heart.
Wanda cherished time with family and friends. She formed life-long friendships and held a special place in her heart for children. She was deeply committed to her community, her church, and those she loved – and that was many! 
Wanda never met an adventure she didn’t like. From exploring hidden canyons at Lake Powell to navigating the streets of Barcelona.  From driving through Guatemala, climbing pyramids in Egypt, or walking through Old Jerusalem, Wanda traveled the world and delighted in different cultures and people.
She was a patron of the arts and loved going to plays, operas, and concerts.  She loved art, literature, and history.
At her very core, Wanda was a teacher and storyteller. She taught in public schools for over 30 years, and beyond that, she constantly shared her passions, knowledge, and experience with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Her heart, like her husband Don’s, was forever etched upon the red rocks, pine, and cedar of San Juan County – God’s Country. 
She loved and honored her ancestors and planned for her descendants. We honor her; we thank her for teaching us to embrace life, to be open and kind, to love. 
And now Wanda journeys back to Blanding, UT, where she will lay at rest with her beloved Don.
Wanda is survived by three daughters (Jeanne von Zastrow, Joni Graves, and Donna Franklin) and their husbands, ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many members of her extended family, and friends and loved ones around the world. 
Her energy, spirit, warmth, resilience, creativity, grace and unconditional love defined her. We celebrate her life.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Wanda’s favorite charities: shrinershospitalfor children.org
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 in Provo, UT. Interment was Friday, Oct. 26 at the Blanding Cemetery, Blanding, UT.
