Vana Lee Fewkes Young

April 11, 1949 ~ March 23, 2009

Vana Lee Fewkes Young, 59, passed away March 23, 2009 at her home in Highland, UT due to complications of cancer.

Vana was born on April 11, 1949 in Salt Lake City, UT to Lyle H and Sadie Charlesworth Fewkes. After graduating from Granite High School in 1967, she attended Brigham Young University, where she met and fell in love with Clyn L Young of Monticello, UT. On July 12, 1968 they were married for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Vana was a talented musician, a dedicated Latter-day Saint, a faithful, patient wife and a loving mother. Her true passion was being a homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was always serving others. She truly exemplified the Christ-like attributes of charity, patience, and unconditional love.

She was blessed with a beautiful voice and a love of music, which she shared throughout her life. She served as volunteer conductor for the Highland Elementary School Orchestra, played viola for the Pleasant Grove and American Fork Community Orchestras, sang with the Ralph Woodward Chorale, conducted the Junior High and Senior High school bands in Blanding, and frequently sang with her husband for church services and special occasions.

An active member of the LDS church, she served several times as a Ward Choir Director and most recently as Stake Music Director. She loved genealogy and visiting the temple. After raising her children, she worked outside the home, most recently for the non-profit organization Kids On The Move.

Vana is survived by her husband Clyn L; her children: Melanie (David), Nathan (Rachel), Aaron (Jaime), Adam (McKenzie), Diana (Darren), and Devin; her brother Mark (Stephanie); and 11 grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends. She is preceded in death by her father and mother.

Hers was an example of faith, nothing wavering.

Funeral services were March 28, 2009 at the LDS Chapel in Highland, UT and were handled by SereniCare Funeral Home. Interment was in Monticello on March 30, 2009.

Vana’s family would like to sincerely thank those that have given their condolences, service or support during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Kids On The Move of Orem, Utah: (801) 221-9930 or online at www.kidsonthemove.org
