Thelma Mae Nelson Lacy

August 24, 1930 ~ December 26, 2007

Thelma Mae Nelson was born August 24, 1930 to Orpha Viola and Walter Nelson in their home near Clinton in Douglas County, KS.

Thelma and her twin sister, Velma Fae were welcomed home by their two older sisters, Viola and Leona.

Thelma enjoyed being spoiled by her older sisters and grandparents. She spent many hours learning to sew, crochet and other forms of handwork. She learned at an early age to keep a spotless house.

During her childhood, she lived in Grand Junction, and Uravan, CO and in Dragerton, UT. This is where she met and fell in love with Claude Lacy. They were married September 22, 1949.

They lived for a time in Wellington, UT and then in Rico CO. They moved to Blanding when Claude was hired with the Utah Highway Patrol in 1959.

Four boys were born to this union, Mike, Steve, David and Jim. Besides being a devoted mother, Thelma enjoyed visiting with friends, baking, and serving as a “pink lady” at the nursing home.

She loved Christmas and collected and made many decorations for the holidays. She survived cancer and lived to see her children grow to adulthood.

She passed away the day after Christmas, December 26, 2007. She is survived by Claude, her loving husband of 58 years, her children Mike (Toni), Steve, David (Vickie) and daughter-in-law Kimm, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Viola and Velma. She is proceeded in death by her parents, sister Leona, and son Jim.

Thelma’s life was honored in funeral services held December 31, 2007 at the San Juan Mortuary. Interment followed at the Blanding City Cemetery.
