Stephen Kenneth Meyer

Stephen Kenneth Meyer born on Oct. 14, 1927 in Salt Lake City, UT was the oldest child to Stephanus Pieter Meyer and Maria Vreeken. Steve passed peacefully away at his home on Oct. 18, 2018. He never complained about his failing health.
Steve grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School. Then in the summer of 1947, the family moved to Eastland (Lockerby), UT. He was drafted into the army in 1951 and was stationed in Fort Brage, NC as an airplane mechanic.
He met his sweetheart, Bonnie Guymon, on a blind date and soon after they were married for time and all eternity on Nov. 19, 1954 in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved and cherished Bonnie.
Together they are proud parents of nine children: Steven R. (Emalee) of Tremonton, Laurie (Rex) Kay of Goshen, Joyce (Jeff) Brown of Richfield, Scott (Wendy) of Blanding, Rick (Jonna) of Blanding, James (Shurrell) of Blanding, Annette (Bryan) of Spanish Fork, Kyle (Tina) of Moab, and Tracie (Roger) of Tooele.
Steve has 47 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way. Steve considered his greatest blessing in life to be a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Steve taught his children the value of hard work by his example. He worked at the Uranium Mill in Monticello and San Juan County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator.
He helped build the road to Halls Crossing and many other roads in the county. Steve retired as a State Road Department Foreman. His favorite motto was “Stay alive at 55.”
Everyone who knew Steve knew he was a farmer at heart. He took great pride in his home and farm. Also, he loved animals of every kind.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent many years teaching Sunday School. He greatly enjoyed serving with Bonnie in the nursery and faithfully served as a home teacher.
Survived by his wife, Bonnie, and nine children and their spouses.
Preceeded in death by his parents, sister Irene, brother-in-law Kent Redd, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 at South Chapel in Blanding, UT at 12 p.m. A private viewing for family will be held 7 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 at San Juan Mortuary. Public viewing will be held the morning of the funeral from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the San Juan Mortuary. Burial with military honors at Blanding Cemetery.
