Roy Jeffrey (Jeff) Musselman

June 30, 1963 ~ November 15, 2010
Our beloved Jeff, Roy Jeffrey Musselman, died November 15, 2010 at the age of 47 in the Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, CO from complications of encephalitis and pneumonia.
Jeff was born June 30, 1963 to Roy Benjamin (Ben) and Hope Goble Musselman in Nephi, UT. He was the second of five sons. Jeff was born a fighter, being born 39 days early. He was small but never had to be in an incubator. It didn’t take him long to start growing and he grew into a strong young man with a big heart.
When Jeff was born, his family was living in Moab, UT but his dad moved them to Castledale while he and his mom were still in Nephi. From there they lived in Grantsville, Murray, Granger, and Nephi, UT before moving to Monticello in 1966.
Jeff spent most of his school years in Monticello except for four years while they lived in Moab. Jeff graduated from Monticello High School on May 21, 1981. During his school years, he made many close friends and was well liked by his teachers.
In high school he was Charlie Brown in the school play, “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”, Junior Prom chairman and king of the prom, and student body activity chairman as a senior.
Jeff attended Utah Technical College – Orem Campus, graduating with a Certificate of Collision Repair in June, 1983. Jeff returned to Monticello to work for Alan’s Body Shop for about a year. Jeff was very particular with his body work and painting and completed his own beautiful paint jobs. He painted his yellow Chevy red, his Z28 Camero and Benny’s Camero. Car repair hot rods and painting continued to be one of his passions.
In 1984, Jeff moved to St. George, UT, where his brother Ronnie was living. He worked for Young’s Machine Big A Auto Parts. It was in St. George that he met the love of his life, Roberta Lee Anderson, who was attending Dixie College. They were married April 5, 1985 at Alamosa, CO. Almost a year later, March 27, 1986 their marriage was solemnized in the St. George Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jeff and Roberta moved back to Monticello in July, 1987 to begin work as an apprentice plumber with his dad, Ben, at Monticello Plumbing and Heating. Jeff became a journeyman plumber in 1994 and continued working with his dad.
On June 4, 1992, Jeff and Roberta were blessed with a son, Kyle Jeffrey Musselman, bringing a new joy to their lives. How Jeff loved his son. He took him motorcycling, working with the backhoe, camping, sledding and all the fun boy stuff.
Jeff served in many church callings, including temple worker, primary teacher, nursery leader, Sunday school teacher and member of the Elders Quorum.
Jeff also became an EMT, running with the Monticello Ambulance for four years.
Jeff contracted encephalitis in August of 1998 at the age 35 and became unable to work or care for himself. The last few years, he resided at Vista Grande Care Center in Cortez, CO.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 25 years, Roberta Lee Musselman; son Kyle Jeffrey Musselman (age 18); parents Ben and Hope Musselman; brothers Kary Ray (Sheila) of St. George, Ronnie Dwayne (Tamie), Kedric Lloyd (Pauline) and Benjamin Rusty (Marcie), all of Monticello; Roberta’s parents, Joel and Dora Gay Anderson of Alamosa, CO and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by grandparents Ross Andrew (Rusty) and Lillie Bell Musselman and Lloyd Reginald and Erma Goble, uncle Andrew Robert Musselman and great nephew, Joshua Boudin Johnson.
Funeral services were held November 20, 2010 at the Monticello North LDS chapel. Interment at the Monticello Cemetery.
