Ronald Dean Toomey

December 7, 1959 ~ May 9, 2019
Ronald Dean Toomey, age 59, passed away on May 9, 2019. Ron was born December 7, 1959 in Lompoc, CA to Joseph Eldon Toomey and Marcia Rose Warner Toomey. He was the second of seven children, the oldest boy.
He spent his growing up years in Lompoc where he was involved in many sports. He went to Lompoc High School and played football there.
Ron was a social person. He had a lot of friends and maintained friendships from his growing up years. If Ron was your friend, he was the most loyal friend.
He loved the beach and missed it, but he also loved San Juan County.
After high school, Ron attended the Arizona Automotive Institute in Phoenix. He then attended BYU.
He served a mission in the North Carolina Charlotte mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Afterward, he returned to BYU.
It was while he was attending BYU that he met the love of his life, Mimi Suzanne Peterson. They were married on June 15, 1985 and later sealed in the Provo Utah Temple in December 1992.
Ron worked as a mechanic for most of his adult life, but he started landscaping with Jeff Frost in 2006.
This was his favorite job. He loved to garden and work with the soil.
Ron loved his children very much. He made sure they had lots of adventures; camping, fishing, riding motorcycle, and riding ATVs together. He enjoyed going to anything the kids were in.
He traveled far and wide for all of Scott’s sports events, Chantelle’s choir events, and then to Jennifer’s music performances–sometimes going up and back on the same day.
He endured bi-polar sickness his whole life but finally got the help and relief he needed. He was a great advocate for mental health awareness.
He also battled addictions, but he was able to overcome those. He went on to work in the Addiction Recovery Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Helping people to be free of addictions was one of his passions.
Ron was a regular temple attender and found peace in service there.
Ron was involved with the San Juan ATV Safari, and he was involved in preserving this beautiful area he lived in.
Ron is survived by his wife, Mimi; his son Scott (Samantha) of Enterprise, UT; daughter Chantelle (Wes) Culbreth of Panama City Beach, FL; daughter Jennifer (Joshua) Hodges of Provo, UT; his most precious grandchildren Nate, Joey, Ellie, Stockton, Elijah, Caleb, Rose, and Emma; and his siblings Rebecca (Jeff), Don (Cindy), Paul (Debbie), Harold (Holly), and Robert (Jana).
Ron is preceded in death by his brother Jerry Toomey and his mother Marcia.
He had a big energy and an enormous capacity to love. He was the other half of Team Toomey, and Mimi will miss him. But theirs is an eternal love, so for now she will go on until they can meet again.
