Raphael “Ray” Jarvis

March 3, 1913 ~ November 20, 2011
Raphael “Ray” Jarvis, age 98, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2011 at the San Juan Hospital in Monticello, UT.
Ray was born on March 3, 1913 in Benson, AZ. He was the third of ten children born to Ruth Bloomfield Wilson and William Heber Jarvis.
Ray’s parents had to leave Pacheco, Mexico while his mother was expecting his birth.
The Mexican and American governments had issued an order for all American citizens to leave Mexico because of the Revolution.
Ray always considered it a blessing to have been born in the United States under such conditions.
Ray married Zina Walser, also from Mexico, in 1936. They had five children; Zina Ruth, William, Burdell, Karl LeRoy and Daniel Eugene. Ray and Zina were divorced in 1948.
Ray married Geneva Lu Dorris in 1953. Geneva died in 1978. After her death, Ray relocated to Monticello, UT to be near his sister, Ruth Jarvis Chase.
While in Monticello, Ray met and married Leota Hewitt in 1979. They divorced in 1992.
Ray was a plumber by trade, but worked at several other occupations. He lived in Everett, WA for 30 years.
Ray lived an independent life in his later years, staying busy fishing or working in his shop on inventive and creative projects.
He loved prospecting for unusual rocks and natural object art forms. He was a musician playing piano, guitar, and his always- handy harmonica. He also sang in an excellent tenor voice in his younger days.
Ray’s three surviving sons, Bill, Burdell, and Karl will greatly miss their unique and beloved father.
