Petty Officer First Class Jason Ray Workman

Petty Officer First Class (SEAL) Jason Ray Workman was born on August 12, 1978 in Montrose, CO. He later graduated from San Juan High School in Blanding, UT in 1997.
In high school, Jason was a standout athlete in baseball, basketball and was named to Utah’s all state football team.
He was also very active in the community, coaching little league sports where he made a positive impact on the lives of others.
He continued a life of service; from 1997 to 1999, Jason served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil and Philadelphia. Jason was fluent in Portuguese.
In 2003, he graduated Southern University of Utah (SUU) with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Petty Officer Workman joined the Navy and reported to Naval Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, IL in August, 2003.
In 2003, he completed basic training and reported to A-School for three months. In January, 2004, he entered Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training at Coronado, CA.
After six months of the most grueling and demanding training in the military, Jason graduated with BUD/S class 250 and immediately proceeded to Advanced SEAL Qualification Training, graduating in March, 2005.
He was assigned to his first permanent duty station, an East Coast SEAL team, where Petty Officer Workman began a rigorous selection and training course with Naval Special Warfare; a special duty assignment.
Nine months after beginning this training process, Petty Officer Workman was selected to be a Naval Special Warfare Operator, where he completed numerous deployments around the world in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
Petty Officer First Class (SEAL) Jason Workman was a highly decorated combat veteran with numerous awards, including the Bronze Star Medal with Valor (1), Purple Heart Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation (2),Navy Unit Commendation, Global War on Terrorism (Service) Medal, Global War on Terrorism (Expeditionary) Medal, and numerous other personal and unit decorations.
Petty Officer Workman is survived by a loving wife and son, his parents, his three brothers and their families.
Petty Officer Workman is preceded in death by a grandfather, grandmother, uncle and nephew.
A memorial ceremony will be held Saturday, August 20 at 2 p.m. at the Blanding Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
