Michael Jay Swenson

Michael Jay Swenson passed away on June 21, 2012 in Blanding, UT.
Michael was born May 2, 1961 in Monticello, UT to Morris J Swenson and Constance Gay Little. He was a fun-loving, adventurous and mischievous boy, being the second of six children.
During high school, he played football, wrestled, was named second team All-State his junior year and first team All-State his senior year. In wrestling, he placed second two years running in the state tournaments.
Mike earned a wrestling scholarship to Weber State University after serving an mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dearborn, Michigan.
Michael was blessed with four loving children: Ashley Swenson Pope, Ryan Michael Swenson, Zachary Taylor Thomson and Merissa Grace Thomson. His children meant the world to him.
He worked as a material specialist for the State of Utah in the transportation deportation for close to 13 years. After suffering a disabling back injury, he taught himself, mastering computers and other technologies.
Michael was a loving, devoted father. He was passionate in any endeavor in which he engaged. He loved adventure, intellectual discussions and could fix anything. Often times, he would spend hours or days fixing whatever it was that was asked of him.
Material possessions were not important to him and he would often give anything he had to the needy. Michael will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his brother, John L. Swenson.
He is survived in death by his parents, Morris and Connie Swenson; children Ashley (Kael) Pope, Ryan Swenson, Zachary Thompson and Merissa Thompson; brothers Blair (Paula) Swenson, Craig (Heidi) Swenson and Jim Swenson; sisters Barbara Swenson and Linda (Alan) Larson; and many nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the Sherriff’s Office and Blanding Police department for the extra kindness and services provided above and beyond their duties. It is a pleasure and honor to live in a wonderful caring community.
