Michael J. Young (MYK)

December 26, 1969 ~ October 23, 2012
On October 23, 2012, Michael J Young died at the place he loved most, Johnson Creek, just north of Blanding, UT.
Myk was born on December 26, 1969, to Alfred Lee Young, Jr., and Linda Shumway Young.
They brought him to their American Fork, UT, home to meet his two- year-old brother, Shawn Lee. Shawn and Myk were next joined by their sister Rebecca Dawn, and several years later by one more brother, Timothy Mark. By then they lived in Payson, UT, where Myk spent most of his growing up years.
During that time his parents participated in the Indian Placement Program and Myk was privileged to gain two foster sisters: Pamela Slivers and Adena Slivers. Myk attended Payson High School and later served an LDS mission to Arcadia, CA, Spanish speaking.
Upon returning from his mission, Myk met and married Sue Laswell. They lived in Las Vegas, NV, where Myk worked hard installing cabinets and countertops. Myk and Sue divorced and Myk later married Karin Daxl. After Myk and Karin divorced, Myk moved to Blanding to be closer to his parents. He attended college at the USU -- Blanding Campus. There he earned his Associates Degree in Native American Studies and met his love, Jami Bayles.
Myk loved the outdoors. His favorite pastime was hiking the hills with his dogs, Shawn and Infinity. He was also a talented and meticulous carpenter. Myk was a man who judged no one, gave to the poor even when he was poor, and spent time caring for those who were in need. A few days after Myk passed from this life, his faithful dog, Shawn, joined him.
Michael is preceded in death by his grandpa Jesse Glen Shumway, grandma Eva Lyman Shumway, grandpa Alfred Lee Young, Sr, and nephew Jeremiah Young.
