Melvin Dwight Hurst

September 1, 1946 ~ March 16, 2008

Melvin Dwight Hurst born, September 1, 1946, passed away in his home on March 16, 2008.

He was the son of the late Melvin Hurst and Winnie Virginia Britt Hurst. He was raised in Blanding, UT with his sisters Liz Black, (Dale), Darlene Hurst, Cindy Stevens and his brother Dan Hurst (Sheila).

He graduated from San Juan High School in 1965 and attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a law and accounting degree.

He married the former Marilyn Jo Woods on May 28, 1970. This union was blessed with five children: Julie Ann Smith (Sam), Sarah Jane Stingel (Carl), Mathew David Hurst, Emily Rachel Hurst, and Rebecca Mary Hurst.

He was the proud grandfather of seven beautiful grandchildren.

He practiced law for 30 years in Albuquerque, NM and was also a member of the Rotary Club of New Mexico. His “Hurst Musings” column in the Rotary newsletter made everyone laugh. He had a great gift for writing poetry given by the International Society of Poets.

His door was never closed to a person who needed his help, and his generous heart and wonderful sense of humor touched everyone who knew him.

He served faithfully for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in California. He worked in the Albuquerque Temple for many years. He taught early morning Seminary for 8 years.

His funeral services were held in Albuquerque, NM on March 20, 2008. Internment in Blanding, UT on March 22, 2008.
