Mel “Rae” Starkey Henderson

Monticello native, mother of five
Rae Henderson, born Mel Rae Black, 78, passed away peacefully on 23 December 13, 2013, surrounded by loved ones.
She will be met on the other side by many loved ones too, including two daughters, BilllieDawn Peden and Carla Kay (Starkey) Bransky; mother Beula Bailey Black; father Alvin K Black; brothers Drexel Black and Clayton Black; and husband, Hazen Henderson. The reunion with them will surely be joyous.
Rae was born and raised in Monticello, UT. She married Carlos Starkey and moved to Mesa, AZ, where they had all their children.
Rae worked the night shift at Motorola, so she could spend the day with her children.
After they parted ways, Rae moved to Preston, ID, then Downey, and finally spent many years in Pocatello.
She married Hazen Henderson, and they had many happy years traveling through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona before he was take by the Lord. She never remarried.
Rae was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many and will be missed by all.
No one worried more about her grandchildren than Rae. She loved her grandchildren and took care of them as if they were her own children, especially Ashley and Cameron.
Rae did CNA work for the State of Idaho for many years. Rae often deprived herself to make sure she could give to others. She brought a lot of happiness to everyone and touched many lives.
Rae is survived by four of her children: Kelly (Kim) Starkey, Tommy (Shulene) Starkey, Pat (Betty) Starkey, and Lynda (Denton) Starkey Gibson.
Her grandchildren are Ashley (Kaylyn) Starkey Price, Mike Green, Shandra (Clint) Starkey Weigel, Jesse (Brina) Harris, Shelby Harris, Billiedawn Starkey, Dianne D Starkey, Clay Peden, and James Whiting.
Her great-grandchildren are BillieRaen Starkey, D’Aartagnan Starkey, Macie Starkey Wood, and Kelson Harris.
Funeral services are under the care of Colonial Funeral Home and wereheld December 28. Burial followed at the Cambridge Cemetery in Downey, ID.
