Mary Esther Nelson

December 4, 1931 ~ September 9, 2012
Mary Esther Nelson passed away September 9, 2012 after a courageous battle with Alzheimers.  A wonderful cook and delightful friend she will be missed.
Mary was born December 4, 1931 in Maryland to Esther and Thomas Cox.
She married Mitchell V. Asbury and had two children, Wayne and Alice.  She traveled a bit and then came to make San Juan County her home.  Here she met and married her true and faithful companion Clarence Jay Nelson.
She worked for over 30 years in the school lunch program, specifically the Blanding Elementary School. She will forever be known by generations as “My lunch lady”.
Countless children loved seeing her as they went through the lunch line.  She took her love of cooking and her creative instinct and made many beautiful wedding cakes.  Hours and hours were spent creating all the flowers and decorations by hand, the old fashioned way.  She loved to sew and crochet.  She touched many lives and is remembered fondly.
Graveside services were held September 16, 2012 and interment in the Blanding City Cemetery.

The family of Mary Nelson would like to thank the many expressions of caring and sympathy shown, especially Bishop Christensen and the 8th Ward, Danny Palmer, and the nurses and staff of San Juan Hospital and Dr. Black for their compassionate care in her last days.
