Lawrence Stephen (Steve) Stovall September 19, 1945 ~ October 23, 2024

Steve Stovall, 79, passed away at home, surrounded by family.  He was born September 19 1945, in Tucumcari NM, to Beatrice May and Lawrence Stovall.
Steve overcame a challenging childhood to build a life grounded in service and honor.
In 1964 at the age of 19, he joined the US Marine Corps.  Of all the distinguished job titles he held in his life, the title of “Marine” was the one he was most proud of, and where he developed the grit and determination that would define his life.  
In 1965 he met and married the love of his life, Elaine Martin of Monticello, Utah.  They had four children together.
After his military service, he built a distinguished career of over 20 years in law enforcement, starting in San Juan County, UT, and finally retiring as a Detective with the Washington County Sheriff’s office in Utah.  He also served concurrently to that for several years, as the Washington County Medical Examiner Investigator for the State of Utah. 
Steve was deeply respected by colleagues and community members alike, for his unwavering integrity and strong work ethic.
Throughout his career, he remained passionate about learning, earning numerous certifications and continually expanding his knowledge in the field of law enforcement.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steve was a loyal and dedicated husband and father.  He leaves a legacy of persistence, integrity and devotion. 
Steve is survived by his children;  Mike (Tracy) Stovall, Karen (Brian) Shattuck, and John (Viola) Stovall. 
Preceding him in death are his wife, Elaine Martin Stovall, his son Tim Stovall, and grandson Ethan Rapoza.
A graveside service will be held at the Monticello, Utah Cemetery on June 6 at 5 p.m.
