LaRae Bronson Robson

June 13, 1917 ~ October 26, 2010
LaRae was born June 13, 1917 in Monticello, UT to Fletcher and Eva Dorothy Butt Bronson. She was the third child in a family of five. Her siblings are Cleone, Warren, Zola and Grant Bronson.
She passed away October 26, 2010 at the San Juan Hospital.
Her family was musically inclined and they sang for many programs and activities. They loved to sit on their front porch in the evening and sing, and they could be heard across town.
LaRae went to school in Monticello in the school house where the library is now. Her first grade teacher was Miss Bradshaw and even though she was strict, she said that is why she was such a good speller and was taught to pronounce her words.
LaRae and her friends would go on walks with a frying pan tied on their bib overalls and some food in a sack. And they also liked to ride horses over the mountain and stay overnight. Their parents never seemed to worry about them.
She remembered the family taking horses and a wagon up the mountain road and camping at the old Buckboard, along with several other families. What fun they had playing on the old swing set and sitting around the camp fire. Her family loved the out of doors and passed this on to her, which she passed on to her children.
On June 21, 1936 she married Ralph Gordon Robson. They lived at the power plant up the mountain road where the Angel Archery range is now. Ralph had the job of running the power plant and they lived in one room at the side of the plant. They didn’t have a car and would walk or ski to town after mail and groceries.
After Pearl Harbor, Ralph was called into the Army and was gone 31/2 years. LaRae and her two little daughters, Sheran and Sandra, moved to town and lived next to the Bronson grandparents in a one room shed which Ralph fixed up.
When Ralph finally came home he built a nice home, doing most of the work himself, which they both enjoyed the rest of their lives. Two more children were added to the family, Ralph Dennis and Janice.
Ralph and LaRae took up skiing when the ski area opened and both helped keep it going, Ralph running the tow and LaRae helping in the cabin. And they both loved to jeep, camp and hike, they had many exciting adventures, getting stuck and snowed in when they were camping out on the Elk and getting caught in a flash flood.
They were some of the first going into Canyonlands and up Salt Creek. And they couldn’t wait to show the children and grandchildren where they had been and then take them there. They have hiked to almost every peak on the Blue Mountain and have camped and hiked in most of San Juan County. How they loved this area. Even when LaRae was getting weaker, her family took her for rides every day on the mountain.
She sang in the choir for many years, taught Primary for 21 years and was a Den Mother. She was a very good cook and would share with all the family.
LaRae is preceded in death by her parents, Fletcher and Eva Bronson, husband Ralph G. Robson, brothers Warren and Grant, sisters Cleone and Zola and many cousins to whom she was very close.
She is survived by her children: Sheran (Ken) Iverson, Sandra (Max) Black, Janice (Karim) Mardanlou, and Ralph Dennis; ten grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held November 1 at the Monticello Cemetery. A grandson, Bishop Ked Black, conducted the service, two songs were sung by nieces Marion Rockwood and Lisa Rarick, the life history was given by Sheran Iverson and the prayers were given by grandsons Shane Iverson and Kraig Black.
The family thanks the Third Ward for all their help and for the nice dinner after the service. Thanks to those who sent flowers, cards, and brought food and for your love and support. We thank the Four Corners Care Center for their kindness to Mother the past ten months. You all did so much to make her feel at home and took such good care of her. Also thanks to all the nurses and staff and Doctor Reay at San Juan Hospital. We couldn’t have asked for any better nursing than you gave her.
