Kenneth Miller

Father of three, loved San Juan County

Ralph Kenneth Miller was born January 1, 1928 in Longdale, OK. He was the first of five children born to Charles Ralph and Ofie Mae Maurer Miller. His brother Ray and sisters Leota (Barry), Alberta (Taylor), and Charlene (Bishop) would follow.

Kenneth moved to Horsehead Point when he was two and a half months old and lived in San Juan County until he was six.

For the next six years, the family moved for work. Kenneth lived in Longdale, OK, Lewis and Arriola, CO, Yakima, WA, Hood, OR, and Jerome, ID before they returned to San Juan County.

He attended Monticello High School then went to the Navy. He was stationed on the destroyer USS Frank Knox, spending time in Hawaii, Hong Kong and China.

Kenneth married Donna LaRee Fuller Miller on November 6, 1948. She was the love of his life. They were seldom seen apart. To this union, four children were born, Kenna, Michael, Della and Sheila.

Kenneth loved farming and his cows. He homesteaded on Pierson Point and built the home located in Eastland. He worked out to pay for the farm, mostly driving truck. He logged well over a million miles without any accidents or moving violations.

Kenneth joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 20, 1979 and was sealed to his family for time and all eternity on August 8, 1980.

Kenneth married Peggy Scates on December 9, 2004. He loved his family, friends, cows and San Juan County.

He traveled all over the United States and out of the country, but it was San Juan County that stole his heart. He loved the country, the people and its history.

Kenneth passed away at his home on October 27, 2008. He was surrounded by his three daughters and wife.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ofie Miller, his wife LaRee, son Michael, great-grandson Richard Kenneth Wilson, brother Ray, and sister Leota.

He is survived by wife Peggy and children Kenna (Mike) Shintaku, Della (Jim) Matticks, and Sheila (Kary) Musselman, ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and sisters Alberta Taylor and Charlene Bishop.

Services were held on November 3, 2008 in the Eastland Church. Burial was in Monticello, Utah.
