John William “J.W.” Crowley

November 30, 1914 ~ November 1, 2011
John William Crowley, known to most as J.W., passed away on November 1, 2011 at the age of 96, at his home in Cortez, CO. 
J.W. was born to Rufus and Buna Crowley on November 30, 1914 in Yellow Jacket, CO and was basically raised there. 
J.W. married Marjorie Wilson, also of Yellow Jacket, on October 29, 1934 and in 1941 moved to Eastland, UT.  J.W. and Marj made their home in Eastland, where they raised their six kids while farming. 
In 1959, J.W. and his son Buzz bought their first truck and J.W. Crowley & Sons trucking company was born. They kept at it for 26 years.  As if that wasn’t enough, J.W. and his sons bought an Elevator in Dove Creek, CO in 1970 and they worked serving the community for 20 years. 
J.W. also served on the School Board, the Selective Service Board and as the San Juan County Commissioner in the 1950’s.  He also had a great love for traveling and going places, especially Lake Powell in the summer and Mesa, AZ in the winter, where they were surrounded by many friends and family.  Most of all, J.W. loved spending time with his family and got his greatest joys from his children and grandchildren.
J.W. is survived by his wife Marjorie Crowley; children Joan (Gary) Mahaffey, Dwayne “Buzz” Crowley, Leo (Connie) Crowley, Phillip Crowley, Don (Sarah) Crowley and Lisle (Brenda) Crowley; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Buna Crowley; brother and sister-in-law Jamie and Ruth Crowley; grandson Kevin Crowley; and three great-grandchildren. 
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Montezuma are appreciated.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 5 at the Lewis Arriola Community Center under the firection of Ertel Funeral Home. Interment in Eastland, UT.
