John Egbert Codner

May 8, 1924 ~ November 3, 2007

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John Egbert Codner passed away November 3, 2007 of natural causes. He was born May 8, 1924 to John Egbert Codner and Elva Nielson of Ucola, Utah.

John served in World War II and was one of the many who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day.

Through his bravery and many miracles, he survived and received three purple hearts.

John was given 100 percent disabled veteran benefits because of these injuries.

John loved cars and was great with his hands. He was an automobile mechanic for 35 years. He was one of the best mechanics in the county. John also loved the land and owned a farm east of Monticello. He farmed 880 acres where he grew wheat. During this time, he also served as Justice of the Peace for 20 years.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions, including Stake Clerk for 20 years. He served with many Stake Presidents.

John lived a long and fulfilled life. His greatest passion was his family. He was very proud of his family and all of their accomplishments. He will be greatly missed by all.

John is survived by Devon Martha Bell Hansen, his wife of 59 years and his nine children of which eight live in Utah. John (Nancy) Codner of Provo, Kathryn (Kenneth) Moore of St. George, Bill (Joyce) Codner of Cedar Hills, Patricia (Craig) Child of Springville, Jim (Amber) Codner of Blanding, Nancy (Robert) Head of Sandy, Van (Sharon) Codner of Orem, Deby (Clay) Johnston of Pleasant Grove, and Colleen (Robert) Jaeger of El Dorado Hills, California and Dan. He also has 40 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his parents John and Elva Codner, brother Ross Codner, and sister Charlotte Miller.

John was laid to rest in the Mountain View Cemetery on the Lockerby Road. This ground was donated by his mother, Elva Codner, many years before.
