James Glen Barnett sr. April 16, 1935 ~ November 13, 2024
James Glen Barnett Sr., affectionately known as Jim, passed away peacefully from natural causes on November 13, 2024 at the age of 89 in Provo, Utah.
Born on April 16, 1935 to Glen and Elvera Barnett in Murray, Utah, Jim’s life was marked by his infectious humor, selfless nature, and enduring love for his family and the great outdoors.
Jim often recounted fond memories of his youth, working alongside family and friends in the sugar beet fields and baling hay. These early experiences shaped his unwavering work ethic, which carried into his career.
After attending Salt Lake Community College and obtaining his contractor license, Jim co-founded Barnett and King Painting Company, where his artistic skills and entrepreneurial spirit flourished.
He found immense joy in his work, always approaching it with dedication and pride.
It was during this time that Jim met the love of his life, Lillian Eva Galbraith. The two married on May 9, 1970 and their union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 21, 1981. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.
An avid outdoorsman, Jim found peace and joy in nature. He cherished time spent hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. These pursuits were not just hobbies but passions he eagerly shared with loved ones.
His adventurous spirit and the stories he told – always with a twinkle in his eye – will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian Eva Barnett, and his children: Jim Barnett Jr., Dean Barnett, Lisa Barnett, RaNae Ward (Bill), Steffanie Hancock (Aaron), Mitchell Barnett (Shelby), and Matthew Barnett.
He was preceded in death by his daughters Cindy Debenham and Kathy Barnett, his parents Glen and Elvera Barnett, his siblings Calvin Barnett and Joyce Smith, and his son-in-law Bill Ward.
He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his cherished pets Daisy, Rosie, Niles, and Beau, all of whom remember him as a man who embodied the values of hard work, family, and love for life’s simple pleasures.
A public graveside service will be held at the Blanding City Cemetery at 10 a.m. on November 21, 2024. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Blue Mountain Hospital and Utah Valley Hospital for their compassionate care during Jim’s final days.
