J. Anna Pehrson
December 3, 1924~ December 21, 2008
Jennie Anna Pehrson passed away peacefully on December 21, 2008 at the home of her son, Eugene Pehrson.
Anna was born December 3, 1924 in Verdure, Utah to Henry Eugene Peterson and Jennie Ozella (Rowley) Peterson. She was the oldest of five children.
Anna lived the majority of her life in San Juan County. She was raised in Blanding, living near the families of several aunts and uncles. Her cousins were always very close to her.
Anna graduated from San Juan High School in May, 1943. She attended Brigham Young University, where she obtained her degree as a teacher. She taught one year in Lehi, Utah, then returned back to her beloved San Juan County.
Anna was married to Jack Wendal Pehrson on December 22, 1948 by Chris Christiansen at the home of Jack’s parents in Monticello, Utah. They bought a home in Monticello and started their family there.
When the uranium mill closed in Monticello, they moved to Bluff and Jack commuted to Mexican Hat for 17 years. Anna started teaching again, so she could drive her children to Bluff to catch the bus to high school. She taught at many schools throughout San Juan County through the years. She retired from the San Juan School District in 1987.
Anna always loved gardening – particularly flowers. Her home was always surrounded with beautiful flowers ranging from desert cactus’ to roses. One of her greatest joys was to sit on her patio and visit while her waterfalls bubbled and the flowers swayed in the breeze.
Anna loved her family and spent a lot of time making quilts and afghans for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved attending any special occasion in their lives and looked forward to family reunions when she could get the whole family together.
She considered her family her greatest treasures. There were no “in-laws” in her family – all were treated as her own.
Anna and Jack were sealed to each other and their children on March 23, 2008 in the Monticello, Utah temple – the fulfillment of one of Anna’s lifelong dreams.
Anna and Jack had seven children: Eugene (Betty) Pehrson of Blanding, Kenneth (Becky) Pehrson of West Valley, Kirk (Janet) Pehrson of Bakersfield, CA; Anna May (Brent) Davis of Pleasant Grove, David (Carrie) Pehrson of Delta, Brent (Janna) Pehrson of Wendover, NV, and Joyce Pehrson of Blanding. They have 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren with more on the way.
Anna is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Jennie, two sisters Wanda and Gene, a brother Frands, a son Kirk, a granddaughter Lisa Pehrson, and a great-granddaughter Cheyenne Pehrson.
Funeral services were December 29 at the Blanding South Chapel. Interment at the Blanding City Cemetery.
