Henry Clyde Watkins

March 15, 1942 ~ March 4, 2012
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, “The Good Doctor” Henry Clyde Watkins was taken from this earth suddenly on March 4, 2012 at the age of 69.
Clyde was born March 15, 1942 to Ivan and Irene Harvey Watkins, the third of five children, with siblings Richard Watkins, Bertha (Snyder), Marlyn (Smith) and Caroline (Amey).
He was raised in Blanding, UT and graduated from San Juan High School in 1960. Clyde dedicated his life to the service of others. He served an honorable two year mission in New Zealand for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Clyde then continued his education at Washington State University, School of Veterinary Medicine, in Pullman WA. After graduation in 1969, he became “Doc Watkins” and moved to Roy, UT where he had his first veterinary practice until 1971.
In that year he moved to New Zealand and lived there with his family for the next ten years. In New Zealand, he served as branch president for the LDS Church. He moved back to his home town of Blanding in 1981, where he continued his dedicated veterinary work for the greater San Juan County area, covering from Moab to Dove Creek and down to Monument Valley.
He loved working with the people in this area until the end of his life. There are many who have had the privilege to rub shoulders with this great man as he shared his time, warmth and knowledge with those in the community that he loved with all his heart. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
He married Patricia Pickworth of New Zealand in 1966. Together they had four children Marie (Matt) Crocker of Corvalis, OR, John Watkins, Jason Watkins of Blanding, and Katherine Patrick of Salt Lake City, UT. Clyde and Patricia later divorced.
He married JoAnn Radke Brown in 1994 and they were blessed to share 18 years together along with his step-children Douglas (Katie) Brown of Grand Junction, CO, Daniel (Margo) Brown of St. George, UT, Dena (Neil) Moon of Malad ID, Dale (Shylowe) Brown of Blanding, UT, Dustin (Whitney) Brown of Monticello, UT, and Dennis (Nicole) Brown of Blanding, UT.
He was also blessed with 21 grandchildren and two great-grand children.
Clyde is preceded in death by his son John Watkins, sister Bertha Snyder, parents Ivan Watkins and Irene Harvey Watkins, sister Caroline Amey, and great-grandson Beckham Summerhays.
Clyde loved his veterinary work. He was always willing to do all he could for everyone he met. His greatest treasure was his family and friends. He could often be seen out on the tractor with a kid or two on his lap. He loved taking his children and grand children with him on the vet calls and when he was working out on the farm.
He had a great love of life and greatly enjoyed talking to and getting to know every person he helped. His presence in our lives will be greatly missed but his influence will forever be felt in our hearts as we remember this great man and the impact he had on our lives. Clyde leaves behind a great legacy of a man devoted to family and friends.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude for all the thoughts, prayers, visits, food, phone calls and for every other way we have been shown kindness, love, and support during this difficult time. The priceless stories and memories that have been shared with us by those that knew Clyde were truly appreciated.
