Helen P. Herrera
April 7, 1962 ~ October 3, 2018
Helen Precilla Herrera was born April 7, 1962 – the fourth child of six to Epifanio and Natividad Herrera in Monticello, UT. She attended primary school there.
She attended Weber State University and received a Bachelors’ degree in Radiology.
She had many careers in her life – from a welder’s helper to power plant shut-down technician to security guard.
Her favorite job was working on the security staff for the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT. She worked as a security guard from 2002 until she retired in 2017.
Helen’s greatest source of pride was her family. She had two daughters – Sherette (Amy Beltran) Herrera and Catrina Contreras – and six grandchildren – Derrik, Mariah, Adrian, Diego, Xavior, and Samarie. Helen loved and cherished her grandchildren.
Helen was a warrior. She battled multiple sclerosis for more than ten years. In March of 2018, she broke a bone, and it would not heal. After several weeks of pain and no improvement, tests disclosed that she had a very aggressive cancer.
She died peacefully in her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren at 3 p.m.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters – Daniel (Clara) Herrera, Sylvia (Manuel) Rincon, Ernest (Raejean) Herrera, Olivia (Gilbert) Paez, Lorinda (Blas Morales) Arechiga – and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the San Juan Lion’s Club in Monticello, Utah at 1 p.m. where we will celebrate Helen’s life with family and friends.
