Helen Louise Wight

Helen Louise Wight passed away June 22, 2007 in Moab, UT. Helen was born November 16, 1929 in Sarcoxie, MO to Ester and John Gripka. She grew up in Wentworth, MO and there met her beloved Jim Wight. They were married on November 17, 1947 in Wentworth. Jim and Helen moved to Monticello in 1950 and proclaimed it “home.” Helen enjoyed camping, card parties, skiing, and golfing with Jim and “the gang” (Bronsons and Brodericks) – the only “sixsome” in golf. Helen worked at the San Juan Hospital for 35 years while raising five children and attending just about every baseball, football, and basketball game or anything her kids were involved in at the time. Jim passed away in 1997 and Helen continued to live in Monticello until, for health reasons, she moved to Grand Junction in 2004 and then to Moab earlier this year. Now she is back in her beloved Monticello next to her husband Jim.

Helen is survived by her daughter Dianne (John) Wright and sons James, Richard (Cindy), Joe (Leigh Ann), and Doug (Aneth); seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; four siblings – Sylvia Bledsoe, LaVern (Bud) Gripka, Rosemary Cates, and John Gripka Jr.; and special sister-in-law Nell Dalton.

Services were held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on June 26, 2007, officiated by father Rick Sherman. Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the many expressions of sympathy and support during this time.
