HANS ULRICH “RICK” WINKLER

June 3, 1949 ~ March 19, 2008

Ulrich J. Winkler, Wink, Swiss Cheese, Dad, Honey…just a few of many nicknames. Those who knew him already know, those who didn’t, have heard what an amazing person he was.

Rick was the hardest working individual, motivator and helper, all while being the calmest, most mellow man you would ever know.

We knew him as the most kind, loving and caring man, husband, partner, dad, grandpa, and friend.

Never embarrassed to show or receive affection, we all knew how much he loved us. Rick loved the outdoors and being with his family. His biggest excitement was anticipating the next family camping trip and he often planned the next adventure before the current one was over.

Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes; the fish really didn’t matter as his enjoyment came from connecting with friends, family and nature. Father to many, not just his kids,

Rick was a great mentor, coach, scoutmaster and church leader. He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many callings. Even with all of his commitments, he always made time for his family day or night.

Rick was born in Bern, Switzerland on June 3, 1949 to Johann Winkler and Marie Lehman. As their second child and only son, he brought the Winkler lineage to the United States and received US citizenship in 1986.

Rick and Geraldine (Geri) were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 20, 1976. Rick is survived by his wife Geri; his children Jon and Lilly Winkler, Alies and Timothy Keogh, Josh and Mary Winkler, Jared and Nicole Winkler, Jason Winkler and Barbara Hubbard; his grandchildren Whitney, Corey, Nathan, Brennon, Britney, Riley, Chloe, Aspen, Treq, and Jayce; his step-grandchildren Falcon and Nolan; and his nephews Darren and Gabe Simcox.

Rick is preceded in death by his mother Marie; sister Marlies Simcox; and grandchildren Carie Ann Winkler and Annie Keogh.

Funeral Services were held in Moab on March 25. Interment on March 26 at Valley View Memorial Park in Salt Lake City, UT.
