Grant Harder Leavitt

Grant passed away May 19, 2010 in Moab, UT. He was born in Gunlock, UT in 1925 to Josiah Thomas and Flora Christine Leavitt.
He was the eighth child of ten children, Ruby, Mervin, Glen, Leona, Afton, Leighton, Wendell, Devon and Darrylin. The family moved from Gunlock to Ogden, UT in 1929.
Grant attended Ogden High School. He was drafted out of high school into the United States Army and served in the European Campaign during World War II.
He left the Army in 1946 and returned to Ogden, where he began his career in the golf industry at Elmonte Golf Course and Greens Keeper.
He married the love of his life, Erma Eliza Woodburn, on September 4, 1947. Grant and Erma raised four children, Chriss, Craig, Mark, and Carrie.
The family moved to Vernal, UT in 1954, where Grant to a position as the Golf Professional at the Vernal Golf Club.
In 1958, the family moved to Price, UT, where Grant was the Golf Professional at the Carbon Country Club.
In March of 1962, he and the family moved to Monticello, UT to finish building the San Juan Golf Course.
Grant remained the Golf Professional at San Juan until his retirement in 1992. He remained a member of the Professional Golfers Association of America, gaining the distinction of membership in the Half Century Club following 50 years of service.
Grant is survived by his life long companion and wife of 63 years, Erma, his brother Devon Leavitt of Ogden, UT, four children, Chriss Grant (Karen) Leavitt of Monticello, Craig R. (Dorothy) Leavitt of Monticello, Mark (Cindy) Leavitt of Cedar City, UT, Carrie (Casey) Seely of Riverton, UT, ten grandchildren and 24 great grand children.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Grant Paul Leavitt, son of Mark and Cindy.
