Fred Eugene Halliday

Fred Eugene Halliday, 86, peacefully returned to his Heavenly Home and his Love, Audrey, on August 14, 2010.
Fred was born May 24, 1924 in American Fork, UT to Errol McKay Halliday and Jennie Fage.
Fred spent his youth in American Fork Canyon, where his father was custodian of Timpanogus Cave. His father died in 1933 and his mother passed away in 1939. At that time, Fred and his younger brother, Ernest, came to live in Blanding with an aunt and uncle, De and Dorothy Bayles. Fred met Audrey Adams the second day he was in Blanding and has loved her since.
He graduated from San Juan High, attended Brigham Young University and University of Utah and then enlisted in the Air Force and spent three years in World War II. On his return, he found Audrey again and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 31, 1946.
Fred started helping his father-in-law, Melvin Adams, with his sheep ranch and eventually purchased his own outfit. They ran together for 30 years and gradually changed over to a cattle operation.
Fred was always a hard worker. He dug a basement for David with a pick and shovel and worked in the yard untill he couldn’t work anymore Everyone who drove by wanted to “borrow” Grandpa Fred.
He earned his Eagle Scout award when he was 13 and has held many leadership positions in the LDS Church. He was Elders Quorum President, President of the Blanding Indian Branch and the Mexican Hat Branch. He was on the High Counsel and was called as the first Stake President of the Blanding Utah Stake.
Fred and Audrey fulfilled three missions for the LDS Church. First to Coventry England, then Washington DC Temple and Corpus Christi Texas. When the Temple was built in Monticello, he was called as a Sealer-a calling that he loved.
Fred took loving and patient care of Audrey when she became ill. She passed away October 2, 2001.
He is survived by three children – DeAnn (Keith) Ivins, Mike (Linda) Halliday and Candice (Jed) Lyman, all of Blanding. He has 19 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren, sister Lucille East of Bountiful and brothers Ernest (Grace) Halliday of Mesa AZ and Jon (Lindsay) Bayles of Lindon, UT.
He is preceded in death of by wife of 55 years, Audrey, son David Jeffrey, parents, brother David and sister Dorothy.
