Essie “Faye” Knight Eldredge
Essie Faye Knight Eldredge departed this mortal earth and passed away peacefully on July 22, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
Essie, “Faye” as she was known to many, was born on November 16, 1917 to George Peter Knight and Maggie May Lloyd.
Essie was a very strong courageous woman and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was orphaned at a very young age and met with many struggles throughout her youth.
She married LeRoy Hammond, and this union blessed her with her first son, Leland Leroy (Hammond) Eldredge. The brief marriage ended in divorce.
She later met and married her handsome husband, Andrew Jackson Eldredge. They were blessed with four more children, Douglas, Stephen, Sharon, and Michael.
Essie loved her children and was active in all of their school activities and sports, as well as her church callings and community projects. Essie put her strengths to work in leading a crusade to better her community and get a Senior Center built in West Jordan, then served as its president for five years.
She loved to quilt and crochet and made many quilts and blankets for all of her grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
She lovingly served as a temple worker for many years and also served proudly with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Her accomplishments and talents were too numerous to mention. She was lovingly cared for in her final days by her daughter-in-law Rebecca and her husband Larry Bonner.
Essie is preceded in death by her husband Andrew, son Leland, and grandson Stephen Jackson Eldredge. She is survived by her children, Douglas (Colleen) Eldredge, Stephen (Janiel) Eldredge, Sharon (Don) Goodin, and Michael (Karen) Eldredge, daughter-in-law Marion Eldredge, as well as 27 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She will be forever remembered and loved.
