Ella Bernice Redshaw Barry
September 20, 1921 ~ October 7, 2012
Ella Bernice Redshaw Barry was born at Altamont, MO on September 20, 1921 to Helen Louise Crone Redshaw and Richard Pratt Redshaw.
The family moved to Ucolo, CO when Bernice was 12-years-old. There the family became life-long farmers.
Bernice went to school at Ucolo Country School, then on to Blanding to finish high school. Bernice worked at the Dugout Ranch cooking for cowboys and later worked at a store in Cisco, UT.
Bernice met James Barry at a rodeo and dance at Secret Springs, which is near Ucolo. They were married August 11, 1941 and spent 67 years together. To this union were born three children; James, Robert and Stephanie.
Bernice was active in her Eastland community teaching 4-H for many years.
Bernice and James helped build and establish the Monticello Community Church where she belonged to mission circle and taught Sunday school.
She was known for her tatting skills and crocheting work.
Bernice and James loved to travel across the county in their motor home visiting many National Parks and two trips to Alaska. These trips often included their Eastland friends.
Bernice took care of James while he suffered with Alzheimer’s for many years. After James passed away, Bernice moved to Barton Creek assisted living in Bountiful, UT, where she could be near her daughter Stephanie.
Bernice passed away there on October 7, 2012.
Survivors include sons, James (Judy) Barry of Gunnison, CO and Robert (Elaine) Barry of Monticello, UT; daughter, Stephanie (Lee) Gallegos of Centerville, UT; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Monticello Community Church on October 13, 2012. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery in Eastland, UT.
