Dorothy Mary Perkins

August 5, 1931 ~ April 25, 2009

Dorothy Mary Johnson Perkins, 77, passed away April 25, 2009 in Price, UT.

She was born August 5, 1931 on a dairy farm in Fairview, ID to Laurance Marin Johnson and Anna Eliza Small. She was the fifth of six children.

When she was a young child, her family moved to the Erda-Tooele area, where they lived until 1944 when they settled in Moab. It was here that Dorothy graduated from Grand County High School in 1949.

She met and married Kloyd Earl Perkins in Moab on March 18, 1950. They made their home in Blanding, UT, where Kloyd worked with his father in the cattle ranching business.

They raised six sons: Curtiss, Wayne, Jerold, Stanley, Paul and David. Dorothy was a loving mother to her boys and worked hard to make their home a warm and beautiful place.

Kloyd died on November 29, 1982. After Kloyd died, she spent time traveling and eventually visited all 50 states.

She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1985 in the Louisiana-Baton Rouge Mission.

In her later years, she made her home in Price, UT, where she had several good friends and served on the Castle County board of Habitat for Humanity.

She is remembered by many for her love of gardening and her skill in quilting and other crafts.  Her homes were always surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers.

She spent countless hours in the service and care of those she loved, whether it was making warm quilts for her many great-grandchildren or volunteering to feed the hungry or play games and read to the residents at The Heirloom Inn in Price.

She is survived by her children, Curtiss (Cindy), Wayne (Mary), Jerold, Stanley (Sandra), Paul (Dian), and David; sister, Laura, brother Lynn (Betty); 31 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Marin and Lloyd, her sister Delta, and her daughter-in-law Jane.

The funeral services were held April 28 in Blanding, UT. Interment follows in the Blanding City Cemetery.
