Dee Curtis Hancock

August 9, 1933 ~ December 30, 2018
Dee Curtis Hancock was born Aug. 9, 1933 in Lakeshore, UT to Steven and Alene Hancock. He grew up in Spanish Fork.
Dee was the oldest of four children. During his childhood and teen years, he was very active in basketball. When he graduated high school, Dee received a scholarship to the University of Utah where he attended for a year and played basketball.
He then began working road construction with his father. That, along with coaxing from LaRay Alexander, who wanted him to play church basketball, brought him to Blanding in 1954.
That’s where he met Dorothy Lee Burtenshaw and they were married Oct. 20, 1954. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Born to this union were three children, Steve (Katt), Wade (Modessa), and Sherri.
In 1955, Dee was drafted in the U.S. Navy, where he served active duty until 1957. He then remained in the reserves until 1961; at that time he was given an honorable discharge.
Dee and Dorothy spent their married life in Blanding where they raised their children.
Dee worked 40 plus years in the automotive industry.
Dee lost his beloved Dorothy in 2010. He battled cancer and many other illnesses from 2012 to his passing.
Dee passed away at his home Dec. 30, 2018. He is survived by his three children, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two brothers and one sister.
He is preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Dee was laid to rest Jan. 4, 2019, with military honors at the Blanding City Cemetery.
Dad, you will be forever missed.
