Claire Marie Black Northern

Claire Marie Black Northern passed away peacefully on Nov. 20, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Claire was born Jan. 6, 1934 in Blanding, UT. She was the fourth child born to Amy Stevens Black and Clarence Black. Claire was raised in Monticello, UT.
She married the love of her life on Oct. 2, 1950 in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were married 69 years at the time of her passing.
Claire and Don went to school at the University of Utah together. They moved to Morgan, UT, where she was a teacher at Morgan High School.
Don and Claire ended up in Woodland Hills, CA where Claire was called to serve as the Relief Society President, a calling she loved very much.
They later joined Claire’s family in Phoenix, AZ where she spent the next 30 years.
While in Phoenix, Claire formed her own wholesale company called Claire Marie Dolls, creating beautiful porcelain Native American Dolls. Her business grew quickly, and she sold the dolls worldwide.
Upon retirement, Don and Claire moved to St. George, UT and purchased a motor home to travel the country. She loved nothing more than “loading up the bus” and hitting the highway.
Claire was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2006 and battled the disease for 12 years.
Claire always enjoyed life everywhere she went and loved her family very much.
She is survived by her loving husband, Don; her four children, Michael (Gail) Northern, Karen (Danny) Flemming, Jeanne (Charles) Cotter and Kendall (Sue) Northern; 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Blanding, UT Nov. 26. Interment in the Blanding City Cemetery.
She will be greatly missed!
