Carolyn Rasmussen Clayton

Carolyn Rasmussen Clayton passed away June 1, 2011 in Tijeras, NM after a difficult struggle with cancer.
She was born in Salt Lake City, UT on July 31, 1940, the second daughter of Wayne Clifton Rasmussen and Cleo Husband Rasmussen.
She grew up in Monticello from the time she
was six years old. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1958.
Carolyn went to Weber State to get her nursing degree and furthered her degree in Albuquerque, NM. She spent her life in nursing and helping others. She had an incredibly sweet spirit, full of thoughtfulness and love.
Carolyn married Robert Clayton in January, 1961. To them were born four beautiful children whom she loved very much: Steven Clayton (Shalane), Kelly Sue Dickson (Todd), Robert Clayton (Angie) and Kristen Stevens (Shane).
They have four grandchildren: Megan, Lindsey, Kira and Dakota Clayton.
Megan preceded her in death, also from cancer.
Carolyn is survived by her siblings: sister Marleen R. Somerville, and family; brother Wayne Clifton Rasmussen, and family; and brother Scott M. Rasmussen and family.
Carolyn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which she loved her whole life.
We will all miss her sweet smile and pleasant personality.
There was no funeral.



Tribute to a good friend
I met Carolyn in the summer of 1950. Our fathers were farmers north of town. Her family lived on their farm. Her father and mine made sure we met and spent some time together before entering 4th grade in the fall. We became fast friends and remained so. She made it easier to begin in a new school. Coming from Texas I was weird and I talked funny. My classmates had great fun with me that year. Carolyn was always there for me that year and always.
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded. Carolyn, this is how I remember you. Emerson wrote these words many years ago. When we were 16, you clipped it out of a newspaper just for me. “This is how we will live our life, this is our goal girlfriend. Let’s forget about making money and succeed in life.” I have never forgotten this, you were so right good friend. You ran the race well and you have won.
