Betty Ann Bradford Hawkins

Betty Ann Bradford Hawkins passed away on January 10, 2019, at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, UT, from complications following cancer surgery.
Betty was born on January 28, 1935, in Blanding, UT to Sylvester (Vet) and Thora Black Bradford.
Betty was Vet’s and Thora’s youngest child. She had four brothers, Bobby Blaine, Tex Kline, Sylvester Kay, and Cleal Zemira. She also had a sister, Theda, who died in infancy.
On January 28, 1952, Betty’s 17th birthday, she married Edwin Davis Hawkins in the Manti, UT temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They’ve been married almost 67 years.
Edwin and Betty had five children: Julia Ann (Mike) Excell, Mitchel Davis, Edwin (Julie) Bradford, Clark (Ann) Wayne, and Kent (Barbara) Blain. They also had a foster daughter, Stephanie Jan Bergen, who became part of their family, along with her mother, Jane Navajo, and sister, Seraphina Bergen.
Betty served in many positions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Primary President for the Southwest Indian Mission, one of the first two Matron Assistants in the Monticello Utah Temple, as a Temple Worker in the Monticello Temple, and a church missionary in the Washington, D.C. temple.
Betty worked as a cook at the high school school-lunch program and loved working with her co-workers and with the students as well.
Betty was preceded in death by her oldest son, Mitchel Davis; her youngest son, Kent Blain; by grandchildren Gregory Michael Excell, Lisa Ann Excell, and DaNelle Hawkins Mendoza; and by great-grandson Brandon Jacob Hawkins.
Betty’s funeral was held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, and interment was in the Blanding, UT cemetery.
