Bessie Redd Bailey

Bessie Redd Bailey was born on July 23, 1915 in Parowan, Utah to Lovina Mickelson and Lemuel Hardison Redd III, the third of eleven children.

Her earthly tasks completed, she slipped peacefully into the next life May 31, 2007.

Her early life was spent in Bluff and Blanding. After moving to Monticello, her father died when she was eleven years old and she began a lifetime of caring for her family.

Bessie met her future husband, Max Bailey, when she was a sophomore at Monticello High School. They both loved to play basketball and participated on the school teams.

After attending Brigham Young Academy she married Max on October 1, 1934. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints one year later.

After 13 years of marriage, they were finally blessed with children.

She enjoyed all aspects of motherhood, balancing the nurturing of family with jobs outside the home, including many callings of service in the LDS Church.

She loved to sew, quilt and cook. Her beautiful flowers and yard will be missed by many, as will her many acts of kindness.

Throughout her seasons of life, Bessie maintained a genuine sense of class and elegance.

Bessie is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years. She is survived by four children: Tanya (Evan) Lowry, Judy (Larry) Skinner, Debra (Craig) Halls and Rick (Marilee) Bailey; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Barbara Hammett and brother L. Howard Redd.

Funeral services were held in the Monticello LDS Stake Center on Saturday, June 2, 2007. Interment in the Monticello City Cemetery.
