Bertha May Cleveland

February 29, 1932 ~ January 30, 2014
Bertha May Cleveland began enjoying the rewards of her faith and service on January 30, 2014. Cause of death is cancer.
Bertha was born in Fallsburg, NY to Chester and Flora Kenne.  She is preceeded in death by her parents, brothers Chester Jr and Jack Keene, sisters Bess, Helen, Claire, Edith, Marie, and sons Robert and James Kracht.
Bertha is survived by her loving husband Bill Cleveland, sister Ethel Stratton of Appalachian, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.  
Bertha has one grandson, Robert (Janet) Kracht of Elmira, NY.  Dale and Craig Cleveland and their families were also close family to Bertha as well.
Bertha was married June 3, 1949 to Bob Kracht.  They had two children together; Robert Jr. and James both of whom are deceased.  Bertha was divorced in 1972. She worked for New York Telephone for 30 years and retired in 1984, long before cell phones were invented.
Bertha’s life took a dramatic turn when a cowboy from out west came to Dingle Daisy road in Monticello, NY and swept her off her feet.  Bertha and Bill were married December 11, 1982.  
It only took Bill seven years to convince Bertha that there was an even prettier Monticello out in Utah and they moved there in 1989.
Bertha was an active member of the Dove Creek United Methodist Church for the last 20 years since 1993, where she has been a Lay Speaker, Lay Leader, and active member of the UMW and the San Juan parish.  
Bertha also enjoyed her activity with the Sunday School program.  She loved her church family with all her heart.
Bertha directed a Living Nativity in Monticello’s Pioneer Park for 14 years.  She did this with the help of Dorothy Adams and a multitude of volunteers.
Bertha is now hearing the words she longed to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Bertha’s family would like to express their gratitude to the fine folks of Monticello for their love, care and concern for Bertha during her illness and for their support of her husband Bill.
Equally as important, also to her church family that provided so much support and visited so often.  The family would also like to express their heartfelt thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice Care for everything they did to make Bertha so comfortable and attend to her needs.
