Bernie Velton Sammons

February 6, 1962 ~ November 21, 2019

Bernie Velton Sammons, 57, passed away November 21, 2019 in Chandler, AZ. He was surrounded by loving family and completed his earthly journey after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.

Bernie was the son of the late Ferran Bernie Sammons and Laurel Black Sammons. He was the grandson of the late Alvin and Beula Black, all of whom had lived in Monticello at one time.

He leaves behind his mother, Laurel; siblings Rusty, Jodi and Jennie (Arizona), and Ronnie (Idaho); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bernie always loved Monticello and had fond memories of high school, especially drivers ed.

He loved camping and fishing and family reunions on Blue Mountain and longed to visit it one more time but was too ill to make the trip.

He designed his headstone towards the end of his battle with cancer. The fabrication process took several weeks, and due to his tenacity, the headstone was completed and set adjacent to his Grandparents’ marker almost three months prior to his passing.

Funeral services will be held in Chandler, AZ on Saturday, December 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cooper First Ward building, 650 North Cooper Road.

Interment will be Monday, December 9 at 11 a.m. at the Monticello cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Bernie’s name.
