Allie B. Nielson

Allie B. Nielson, of Blanding, UT, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2011 in Monticello, UT.
She was born June 3, 1927 in Blanding to Paul James and Martha Mae Helquist Black. She married Joseph Rex Nielson on July 28, 1946 in Aztec, NM. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on June 4, 1957.
Allie grew up the oldest girl in a large family and learned early on to work and be a help to her mother and dad. This work ethic stayed all her life.
She drove a gas truck from Green River to Moab, helping her dad haul gas before she even obtained a driver’s license. She worked in her dad’s retail store and café. She remembered congregating there with friends as a teenager and having many good times.
She had a lifelong friendship with some of those special friends whom she cherished. Many people remember Allie from her 21 years of running the Mini Mart in the center of Blanding and it was truly “Allie’s store.” Those were some of her best years and she spoke fondly of those times despite the long hours and hard work.
She loved meeting and greeting her customers and having what they needed when they came in. She took pride in running a neat and orderly store.
She was a fun and loving mom and taught her children by her example and instilled good values in them. She cherished her grandchildren and always wanted to know what they were up to and loved to have them come and visit.
She taught primary and was in the presidency for many years. Her children have warm memories of her being there with them. She enjoyed gardening and grew a bountiful garden for many years and took pride in her home and her yard.
She was a great cook, and prepared many holiday meals for her family. She also loved handiwork, reading and spending time with her family. Allie took pride in her appearance and will be remembered for her grace and quiet elegance.
She truly endured to the end with many health problems that plagued her later years. She faced her trials quietly and courageously. She will truly be missed and her memory treasured.
She is survived by her spouse, caretaker and constant companion, Rex, son Jim of Blanding, daughters Kathryn (Jack) Montella, Paula (Jeff) Rogers, both of Blanding, Tami (Kevin) Clark of Kanab, UT and Cindy (Hollis) Dixon of Vernal, UT, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by brother Paul Dean Black of St. George, and sisters Ann Roper of Payette, ID and Jessie Petersen of Meridian, ID.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dorman, Keith, Jim and Johnny, sister Caroline, and infant daughter, Ida Mae.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 2 at the Blanding North LDS Chapel with a viewing held prior to the services. Interment at the Blanding City Cemetery.

The family of Allie B. Nielson extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Curtis Black and the nurses at the Blanding Clinic and San Juan Hospital. They cared for mother with such tender mercy and were so supportive to our family at her passing.
Thank you to the sisters of the 5th Ward Relief Society who prepared the delicious family dinner and provided the baby-sitting services. To all family and friends who supported and loved us through this difficult time – thank you.
To Danny Palmer for all his help and kindness shown to our family. We appreciate and love all those who were a part of mother’s life, who loved her too.
