Alfred Clinton “Al” Phelps

Funeral services for longtime Dove Creek resident Alfred Clinton “Al” Phelps were February 12 at the Dove Creek First Baptist Church. Interment followed at Dove Creek Cemetery. Pastor Mike Farren officiated.
Al was born the son of Earl R. and Julia Ann (Nelson) Phelps on July 5, 1929 in Ellsworth County, KS. He passed away February 6, 2011 at his daughter’s residence in Moab, UT at the age of 81.
On March 7, 1958, Al married Pearl F. Long in Cortez. Al spent many years volunteering for the Dove Creek Fire Department and he worked for Dolores County Weed District for 30 years. He was a longtime member of the V.F.W., Elks, and the V.F.W. Volunteer Ambulance. A hard working man, Al received great satisfaction working with animals.
Surviving Al are his wife of 52 years, Pearl Phelps of Dove Creek; his daughters, Teresa Burns and husband, Kenney of Hotchkiss, CO and Tisha Ayers and husband, Clay of Moab, UT. Al also leaves behind his grandchildren, Nikki Phelps of San Angelo, TX and Klayton Burns and wife, Sonya of Chula, GA; his great-grandchildren, Colby, Will, and Lauren Grace Godwin; his siblings, Neva Westerman of Ellsworth, KS, Janice Huseman and husband, Roy of Ellsworth, KS, Evelyn Morrical of Beverly, KS, and Norma Jean Andrews and husband, Tom of Salina, KS; his sisters-in-law, Norma Phelps of Brookville, KS and Gerri Evans and husband, Burt of Cortez; and brother-in-law, Clyde Sanchez and wife, Lora of Santa Fe, NM.
Al is preceded in death by his parents; by his son, Don E. Phelps; and by his siblings, Joyce Egan and John Phelps.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Al Phelps’ name to the Dove Creek Ambulance Fund or to the Dove Creek Fire Department, in care of Community BServices are under the direction of Ertel Funeral Home.
