Wyatt Toney continues long-drive dominance

It’s the same old story every year. Wyatt Toney makes the drive from hometown Moab down to the Hideout Golf Club and wins the annual Pioneer Day Long Drive Competition.
Toney has won the annual contest every year he’s competed in it, but this year was his best effort ever. The Westminster College golfer blasted a 377-yard drive to win the men’s division on Saturday, July 25.
Second was Blanding’s Kavika Sue’su’e with a 361-yard shot. Moab’s Braydon Ward was third at 357 yards.
Toney, who will compete at this week’s Hideout Amateur, has had a very good summer, qualifying for the Utah State Amateur and then advancing to the first round of match play.
Monticello’s Jeff Nielson won the senior division with a 299-yard drive and Bruce Adams won the super senior division at 226 yards. He narrowly beat Spanish Valley’s Kerry Behunin by four yards.
The boys’ division was very competitive with Beau Yeomans taking the victory at 357 yards. Jackson Keyes hit 333 yards, with Easton Knight at 332 yards and Conlin Byrd at 325 yards. Even 14-year-old Korver Perkins hit his best drive at 310 yards.
Tymber Black won the women’s division with her drive of 222 yards and Tracy Johnson was the women’s senior division champion at 204 yards.
Monticello High School state champion LE OIson won the girls division with a very solid drive of 229 yards. Bobbi Yeomans, at 12-years-old, hit 210 yards for her best effort.
