Jack Norman Young October 1, 1944 ~ June 15, 2026

Jack Norman Young, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community pillar, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by the family he cherished above all else.
He faced his final battle with cancer and other illnesses with the same quiet courage and grace that defined his entire life.
Born October 1, 1944, in Salt Lake City, UT, Jack was raised in Monticello, UT, a town that would forever hold his heart.
He graduated from Monticello High School and went on to play college football in St. George, where his spirit was as unstoppable as his drive. When a knee injury redirected his path, Jack didn't miss a beat. He transferred to Cedar City and joined the ballroom dance team because Jack Young was never one to sit still.
He eventually returned home to pour his energy into the family business, Young's Machine, and never looked back.
Jack's life was one of deep devotion to his family, his faith, his work, and his community. He was first married to Jesse Black of Blanding, and together they welcomed three children: Troy Young, Shari Young Salsbury, and Jodi Young.
He later married Dayna Lewis Young, also of Monticello, and their union brought two more children into his life: Jenni Young and Chadd Young.
At Young's Machine, Jack didn't just work. He built something. He took enormous pride in the company's buggies and in carrying forward a family legacy with integrity and craftsmanship.
But his contributions extended far beyond the shop floor. In Monticello, Jack Young was an institution. He served two terms as Mayor, earning the trust and admiration of his neighbors through dedicated, visionary leadership.
He played a pivotal role in the development of Loyd's Lake, named in honor of his uncle Loyd, leaving a literal landmark on the landscape of his hometown.
For more than two decades, he owned and operated the local theater, bringing movies and magic to the community he loved. He served faithfully on the Empire Electric board for many years.
And perhaps most tenderly, he taught the promenade for the Monticello High School Junior Prom for years, a tradition he held close to his heart and one that countless young people will carry with them forever.
Jack retired to St. George but never truly left Monticello behind. That town was part of his DNA, and his investment in it, in its people, its growth, and its joy, never wavered.
In everything he did, Jack brought energy, warmth, and an unshakeable love of life. He was happiest on the golf course, in a darkened movie theater, or in the middle of a room full of family.
His laugh was generous. His presence was magnetic. His devotion to the people he loved was absolute.
Jack is survived by his wife, Dayna Lewis Young, children Troy (Wendy Johnson) Young, Shari (Scott) Salsbury, Jodi Young, Jenni (Craig) Young and Chadd (Cassi Craven) Young, as well as 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who were the great delight of his later years.
He is also survived by his brothers Gary (Roma) Young, Mike (Rita) Young, Steve (Carma) Young, Dow (Bernadette) Young, and his beloved baby sister Shellee Young (Gene) Daniel.
He is preceded in death by his parents Garold and Beth Young, brother Frank Young, and nephew Reed Young.
The funeral will be held on Monday, June 22 at the Monticello North Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. and graveside services at 12:30 p.m.
Jack Norman Young lived fully, loved fiercely, and left every corner of his world a little better than he found it. He will be profoundly and permanently missed.
