San Juan boys soccer team registers first win of season in shootout

The San Juan High School boys soccer team started the season with one win and three losses in their first four games of the season.
The Broncos picked up their first win of the year in exciting fashion against Enterprise on Monday, March 9 at home. The game was tied 4-4 at the end of regulation but San Juan prevailed 3-1 in a shootout.
Junior Jace Walker scored two goals in the win with seniors Renton Cardall and Kyle Begay netting one apiece.
Freshmen Cannon Kartchner and Wesley Berrett both got one assist apiece on the day. Senior goalkeeper Wyatt Keith made an impressive 17 saves.
On March 6 the Broncos suffered a 3-1 season-opening loss to Millard. In this past week’s action they fell at South Sevier 5-0 and to Gunnison Valley 6-0 at home.
Walker leads the team with two goals on the season. Cardall, Begay, and Randall Black all have one each. Kartchner, Berrett, and Nick Jones have one assist apiece.
Three Broncos have shared the goaltending duties so far this season. Keith leads with 42 saves, Randall Black has 28, and Jack Kartchner has eight.
San Juan has a couple games on tap this week. They’ll head to Moab on Thursday, March 19 to take on the rival Grand County Red Devils. They return home on Friday, March 20 to host American Heritage.
