Newspapers Rock 10K is Saturday

The inaugural Newspapers Rock 10K race, sponsored by the San Juan Record, is Saturday, October 13 beginning at 10 a.m. The race begins at Newspaper Rock and winds 6.2 miles down beautiful Indian Creek Canyon.

The race course is similar to the 10K leg of the annual Blue Mountain to Canyonlands Triathlon, which takes place every March. Unlike the winter setting of the triathlon, the 10K will be in spectacular fall colors. Cottonwood trees in Indian Creek canyon are turning a vivid shade of yellow.

There are a number of racing categories and several racers are being creative. Some racers are competing as a team and others plan to walk.

Racers are urged to pre-register at the San Juan Record office at 49 South Main Street in Monticello. The office will be open until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 12. You can also register via e-mail, standard mail or by telephone.

Registration at the race will be available, but the entrance fee will increase by $5. Racers are urged to avoid the rush and arrive early.
