Despite drop in unemployment rate, San Juan County still ranks fourth-highest in the state
The unemployment rate in San Juan County is estimated at 3.8 percent, according to data recently released by the Utah Department of Workforce Services (DWS).
This is one of the lowest unemployment rates on record and compares to a 6.0 percent rate in October 2018.
Despite the drop in unemployment, the rate in San Juan County is higher than all but three other counties in Utah. They include Garfield (5.1 percent), Wayne (4.5 percent) and Piute (4.0 percent) counties.
By comparison, the lowest unemployment rates in Utah are 1.5 percent in Cache County and 1.6 percent in Juab County.
Between 2018 and 2019, DWS figures show the number of workers in San Juan County increased from 4,118 to 4,324. This represents a five percent increase.
The overall unemployment rate in the State of Utah is 2.3 percent, which is the lowest rate in the nation.
