San Juan Search and Rescue crews are busy
Search and Rescue volunteers have been busy recently, with two highly technical operations in San Juan County.
On October 27, crews responded to Little Balley’s Road, where two hikers had fallen approximately 30 feet while descending into the canyon. One hiker had a head wound and the other suffered a broken leg.
Search and Rescue crews made it to the hikers. They were loaded into litters and raised more than 100 feet to the rim of the canyon, where they were transported by medical helicopter.
On October 14, a climber broke an ankle while in White Canyon, northeast of Fry Canyon.
Crews descended 500 feet by rope and then rigged the patient for evacuation out of the canyon.
In total, San Juan Search and Rescue crews have responded to more than 100 incidents in 2019.
