Hwy 191 crash kills one, injures three

One person was killed and another critically injured on July 1 when a pickup truck ran into the back of a semi truck in a construction zone north of Monticello.
At about noon, a Ford F-350 was traveling southbound at an excessive speed into the construction zone at the base of Peters Hill on Highway 191. It hit a Peterbilt Semi, which was stopped for the construction.
There were four occupants in the F-350. The passenger side of the F-350 was severely damaged. The right rear passenger died on impact. The front right passenger had an arm cut off and was transported to San Juan Hospital in Monticello in critical condition.
The driver and left rear passenger were taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The semi driver was uninjured.
Along with speeding, impairment is suspected as another contributing factor in the crash.
