New studentbody president at CEU-SJC

Shadd Christensen, of Monticello, is the new College of Eastern Utah – San Juan Campus student body president for 2009-2010. He replaces Kayla Haley, of Crystal, NM.

Teresa Frazier, student life facilitator and advisor, recently welcomed the new president and praised the former one. “We all look forward to having Shadd as the new president and excited to have his experience as a leader and his willingness to serve our community and our campus.

“Kayla has been applauded by faculty and staff for her energetic and positive attitude in leading our student body this year.  She has happily accepted many positions to serve on various committees and has involved students in service projects and activities.  She was accepted into the Licensed Pracical Nurse program and will continue her schooling at the San Juan Campus.”

Christensen attended Utah Valley University and served a two-year mission for the LDS Church in Mesa, AZ before attending CEU-SJC.

He is married to the former Kate Palmer of Blanding and plans to enter the CEU-SJC nursing program. His long-range goals include a career in business or hospital administration.

As the new student body president, Christensen says he will enjoy working with the students, faculty, and staff on whatever he can do to improve the campus.

Gabrielle Bitsene of Bluff was elected as the new vice president of activities. She is excited to continue the tradition of serving in the community and CEU-SJC distant sites.

Frazier says there are several other positions open for student council. Candidates must be a full time student with a 2.5 grade point average, and complete an interview.

New officers receive a stipend each semester and participate in training that includes a Principles of Effective Leadership course.
