Natural Bridges N.M. Centennial Children’s Art Contest
There were a host of winners when Natural Bridges National Monument marked its centennial anniversary and held an art contest.
The best in show award was presented to Bailey Goodwine, a sixth grade student at Monticello Elementary School.
First place winners at Monticello Elementary School include Melanie Rice in the second grade, Cole Patterson in the third grade, Dari De Mille in the fourth grade, Natalie Reay in the fifth grade Bailey Goodwine in the sixth grade and seventh grade student Rebecca Howell.
Second place winners are Gage Wilcox in the second grade, McKayd LaRose in the fourth grade, Kari Schmidt in the fifth grade, and seventh grade student Hunter Bowring.
Third place winners from Monticello include Weston Nebeker in the second grade, Natalia Kelley in the fourth grade, a tie between Sarah Martin and Ben Barton in the fifth grade, Megan Shaw in the sixth grade and seventh grade student Jesse Smith.
The Judge’s Choice Award goes to Kacey Katso, who is in the sixth grade in Mexican Hat. The Ranger’s Choice Award goes to Tobin Esplin, a fifth grade student in Monticello.
Ricardo Sergio-Morales of Mexican Hat was second place in the sixth grade.
Honorable Mention awards include:
• Matthew Hall in sixth grade in Blanding for Best Study in Composition-Balance-Perspective.
• Best Detail to Tomasina Yellowman, a sixth grade student in Montezuma Creek.
• Best Abstract Style to Kaylyn Katso, a sixth grade student in Mexican Hat
• For Best Classic Children’s Style to Katy Pugh, a sixth grade student in Blanding.
• For Best Minimalist Style to Nicole Keith, a sixth grade student at Mexican Hat.
• For Best at Drawing-In the Viewer to Neely Ryan, a sixth grade student in Monticello.
• For Best Night Sky to Karissa Coppin, a sixth grade student at Monticello.
• For Best Wildlife to Nolan Freestone, a fifth grade student in Monticello.
• For Best Historical Scene to Warren Yellowman, a sixth grade student at Montezuma Creek.
• For Landscape other than Natural Bridges to Kurtis Holliday, sixth grade student at Mexican Hat.
• For Landscape other than Natural Bridges to Josie Duke, a second grade student at Monticello.
The artwork of all 30 prize winners will be on display at Edge of the Cedars Museum from Saturday September 27 to Friday October 31.
